Today, as every Tuesday, is vaccination day at the Kola Centre de Santé Communautaire.
In the control arm of the IMVACS clinical trial in Mali, the fixed-site vaccination strategy means that caregivers bring their children to the health facility on one designated day a week to receive vaccines according to the national EPI schedule.
Earlier this morning, a woman arrived holding her baby girl in her arms.
A member of the health staff gently administered the baby the R21/Matrix-M malaria vaccine.
She wasn’t alone…several other women followed, each with their child in tow, eager to ensure their little ones received their scheduled vaccinations.
Meanwhile, in another corner of the facility, members of the field team are engaging with caregivers, explaining the trial, answering questions, and guiding them through the informed consent process.

Signing the consent form is the essential first step before a child can be enrolled.
Other staff members are reviewing vaccination cards to determine each child’s eligibility. A few women are patiently waiting their turn for consenting, while the health team moves efficiently from one task to the next.

It’s a full and demanding day here in Dioïla!
